Values are the pillars that shape an organization’s culture, give meaning to what we do and why we do it, and keep us aligned.
An example…
In one of the IT Operations teams — our agile team called “Dragon”, which we launched alongside SpaceX 🙂 — we created a team agreement by embracing the 5 Scrum values and thinking through the team’s needs.
We bring it up in Retros and update it from time to time. Because that’s what being a team and being transparent require.
You can find it below and on the door of their office. Anyone who wishes can sign at the bottom.
Let’s take a look at what’s in it.
So, how are things on your side?
Do the teams you’re part of have a team agreement too, and do you bring it up from time to time?
You can also start by looking for answers to the questions below:
- What is the culture and atmosphere you want to create together?
- How do you want to be when things get tough?
- What would support this team’s growth?
- What commitments do you make to one another?
